- Don’t leave valuables within view of your windows where they can be seen by a burglar.
- Promptly pick up packages off your doorstep or reschedule delivery for when you will be home.
- Keep bushes and shrubs trimmed to avoid creating a hiding place for burglars.
- Ask USPS to hold your mail while you are on vacation, this is a free service!
- Motion-activated lights in your yard can deter intruders.
- Have high security locks installed on your windows and doors and always keep them locked whether you are home or away. Most intruders find an unlocked door or window to gain easy entry.
- Never leave a housekey under your doormat, window ledge, in a flowerpot, or in your grill. These are the first place a burglar will look!
- If you are on vacation or a seasonal resident, have a lawn service or ask a neighbor to keep up with your yardwork, ask a neighbor to periodically park in your driveway and use your trashcans.
- Don’t post pictures or vacation plans on social media until after you have returned.
- If you get something expensive, such as a new television or computer, don’t place the packaging in your trashcan or at the end of your driveway.
